Dears,
We will be soon choosing a data modeling tool (Erwin, etc..)
We don't how what would be better for people which are working with Fabric
For example, I don't know if Erwin can integrate with Fabric and which integration capabilities it has. Or if we should instead use the fabric (maybe it has data modeling catabilities) itself or even do it via gitbub or something
What are you using and how do you integrate it with Fabric?
Thanks a lot,
Pedro

Hello @fabricpribeiro,
Use dbt + GitHub for data modeling and deployment into Microsoft Fabric. Optionally, use ERwin connected to Fabric SQL endpoints for enterprise modeling. Leverage Fabric’s built-in semantic models and Git integration for lineage, governance, and version control.
Microsoft docs support:
dbt with Fabric: Tutorial: Set up dbt for Fabric Data Warehouse
Semantic models: Data modeling and defining relationships in Fabric

Thank you.
Hi fabricpribeiro,
Based on our understanding, it depends on whether your modeling tool connects to a Fabric Warehouse or a Lakehouse in Microsoft Fabric. External tools such as Erwin Data Modeler might support with Fabric Warehouses because they expose a complete T-SQL endpoint, enabling schema creation, modification, and synchronization. However, while Lakehouses provide a SQL analytics endpoint, they are primarily read oriented and offer limited T-SQL capabilities. As a result, they might not support full integration with external modeling tools for schema management.
Therefore, Erwin style integration might be limited to Warehouses. Modeling in Lakehouses is typically handled using transformation approaches such as dbt, Spark, or notebooks. Downstream relationships and business logic are then defined in Fabric semantic models.
Accordingly, if your requirement is full schema control and synchronization through a modeling tool, a Warehouse is a possible option. If your primary focus is big data scenarios and modern transformation patterns, a Lakehouse is better suited.

yes you can do it with MSFT fabric. Please go through this artcuile Connecting erwin Data Modeler to Microsoft Fabric Warehouse
It may heklps you

But this is doable for both, lakehouses and warehouses? or only possible for fabric warehouses?
